What is ready mix concrete?

Ready mix concrete is a type of volumetric concrete. Volumetric concrete is measured by the volume of the material.

Gravel, water, sand, and cement go into ready mix concrete.

It is often used in a wide range of construction projects. Contractors all over Cheshunt use it for several reasons.

  • You can order several different grades in one delivery
  • You can customise the batch
  • You choose when the batch gets delivered

It is sometimes referred to as ready made concrete.

Lots of contractors use ready made concrete in residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

How much does ready mix concrete cost?

The price of ready mix concrete varies based on your supplier.

At HH Muckers, our prices start from £80 per cubic metre.

We source premium quality materials from the best suppliers. Our lean, screed, cement, gravel, and sand make the best ready made concrete.

How do you measure the strength of concrete?

Contractors need to make sure that their concrete is strong enough for the project at hand.

The best way to test the strength of ready mix concrete is through compression tests.

Samples of your batch go into specialist machines and are then compressed and measured.

Concrete generally needs to be between 15 MPa (2200 psi) and 30 MPa (4400 psi) depending on the project.

The compressive strength of concrete depends on many factors. The water-cement ratio and the quality of the ingredients are essential.

Lots of contractors choose us as their ready mix concrete supplier. We have the best cement, screed, lean, and aggregates in the industry.

Are there quality standards for concrete?

It is important to always be aware of quality standards.

Our contractors work on residential, commercial, and industrial projects all over North London.

We conduct void, density, and moisture tests on our materials and batches. Compressive strength tests help us measure the quality of our aggregates.

We make portland and asphalt cement at our batching plant. A process called inter-grinding creates these types of cement.

We train our team on how to create quality aggregates.

To talk specifics, contact our local Cheshunt specialists on 01992 635454.

How long do I have to place and finish the concrete?

It is important to consider how much time you have to place and finish concrete.

We offer time slots so that our contractors can plan ahead.

That being said, no one can accurately predict the weather. Adverse conditions such as immense heat and intense winds can halt your progress.

Do not leave ready mix concrete delivery for longer than necessary.

Our volumetric concrete trucks arrive on time. They also come equipped with all the materials you need.

They can move across difficult landscapes without an issue.

We recommend being ready to work as soon as your batch arrives on-site.

What is the difference between concrete and cement?

Both concrete and cement play a vital role in construction projects.

Cement combines with sand, gravel, and water to create ready mix concrete. Contractors across Cheshunt and North London favour this type of concrete. It arrives on-site customised to their specifications.

Portland and asphalt are two of the most popular types of cement.

Without cement, concrete cannot harden.

How do you measure concrete?

We measure ready mix concrete by cubic metre. One cubic metre weighs approximately 2.4T/m3.

Does concrete gain strength by drying out?

Hydration occurs when water mixes with cement, stone, and sand.

Water molecules react with chemicals in the other materials and form strong bonds. They crystalise and aggregate to form what we know as ready mix concrete.

As the bonds form, the number of water molecules in the mixture dissipates. The mixture begins to dry and harden.

The majority of hydration occurs in the first month after you lay the concrete. However, hydration can still occur years afterwards if water seeps into the concrete.

How long does it take for concrete to cure?

To cure concrete, you have to approach it in a different way than you would the drying process.

Contractors all over Cheshunt and North London call us for curing advice.

We always recommend keeping relative humidity above 80%. You must also maintain a temperature of more than 50 degrees for 3 to 14 days.

We know that every single project is different. The amount of time your batch of ready mix concrete delivery takes to cure depends on a few factors.

Call our local Cheshunt team on 01992 635454 to talk about your project.

What strength concrete is normally used for a slab under a house?

Our Cheshunt contractors use C35 grade strength concrete for residential slabs.

There is a wide range of ready mix concrete strengths.

Always speak to your contractors and engineers for specific information.

When you book your ready mix concrete delivery time slot, let us know which grades you need.

If you are unsure what strength you need, call our team on 01992 635454. We cannot talk about your specific project, but we can give advice about general grades.

Why is my concrete cracking already?

You do not have to worry about cracks. They are a natural part of working with concrete.

When hydration occurs, concrete dries. It also shrinks an average of an ⅛ of an inch every 20 feet. Cracks are more apparent in largescale projects.

There are a few ways to decrease the likelihood of cracks.

  • Do not add a lot of water to your batch to make it easier to work with. This can cause more hydration, shrinkage, and cracks than usual.
  • Add one expansion joint to your ready mix concrete every 3 to 3.5 metres. Doing so adds structure to your project and reduces the impact of contraction.
  • Working on the surface of concrete before it is cured can cause defects and hamper the hardening process.

What is screed?

Screed is a popular construction product. It is made from fine sand, water, and cement. HH Muckers’ concrete screed is workable and pliable. Contractors all over Cheshunt call us for easy-to-use floor screed

Some of our screeds contain very fine pieces of sand, and others contain sand that is 6 to 10mm large. Larger chunks of sand are better for large-scale construction projects. Smaller pieces of aggregates are better for residential construction tasks.

What is screed used for?

Screed floors have lots of uses.

Contractors pour screed to create a thin layer of flooring. The primary purpose of screed is to create even surfaces. HH Muckers’ concrete screed is very workable, so it is easy to create blemish-free surfaces.

Most of the time, contractors lay screed before tiles, carpet, and wooden slats. It is also common for customers to pour screed on top of concrete sub-bases. Concrete bases have lots of blemishes that need to be buffed out. Screed is an affordable solution to this problem.

Our screed can also improve home heating systems. You can pour screed over floor heating pipes to provide extra padding.

Differences between screed and concrete

HH Muckers’ floor screed is made from sand, water, and cement. The size of the sand varies depending on which screed you choose. This construction material makes thin, even layers for floors.

At HH Muckers, we also sell concrete. It is sometimes mistaken for screed. Our concrete contains sand, water, and cement, but it also contains 20mm pieces of gravel. Ready mix concrete goes into floors, pillars, walls, and a number of other construction essentials. It has load-bearing properties.

Types of floor screed

Here are the three types of concrete screed that we sell.

Floor screed –

Floor screed is perfect for people who want added flexibility. It is far more flexible than traditional screed, and it has an even finish. It is easy to create clean surfaces with this type of screed.

Reinforced screed –

Reinforced screed is far stronger than other types. We add metal bits to the mixture. The metal limits curb shrinkage. The overall mixture is far less likely to crack when it is drying.

Traditional screed

Traditional screed creates even screed floors. We recommend this screed for customers who need even surfaces for tiles, carpets, and slats.

Call 01992 635454 to book your screed delivery.

How to screed a floor?

HH Muckers’ concrete screed is pliable. You do not need to invest in lots of tools. One tool that we recommend is a trowel. You might have heard of trowels being called screed floats. They are simple handheld devices that have a rubber handle and a flat surface.

  1. Lay your screed.
  2. Use the trowel to level the surface.
  3. If the surface is still not level, use carborundum stone. This stone will also remove any marks left by the trowel.

How do I cure screed?

After seven days, screed floors reach 65% of their overall strength. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for the floor to reach 100% strength. It all depends on the conditions in the room and the type of screed that you choose.

Floor screeding cures quicker when it is covered with a polythene sheet. Just make sure that the sheet is airtight.

How long does screed take to dry?

Concrete screed dries at a rate of 1mm per day.
