Crushed Concrete in London

We grind chunks of concrete, limestone, and granite together to form 20mm, 40mm, and 75mm pieces.

Contractors in London depend on us for high-quality crushed aggregates. Whether you need MOT Type 1 or 6F2 Recycled Aggregates, we have got you covered.

Crushed concrete is a cheaper alternative to primary construction materials like limestone. It is used as a sub base for patios, driveways, or any other building formations. Once compacted, concrete is sturdy and durable. This long-lasting material can also be used to support drainage projects.

Recycled MOT Type 1 and Recycled 6F2 are both sustainable. They are not sourced from quarries. Instead, the concrete and aggregates are taken from existing sites. There are no fumes released during the manufacturing process. We recommend these products for contractors who want to meet eco-friendly targets.

What types of crushed concrete do you stock?

We stock all kinds of MOT and crushed concrete. Different types are better for different construction needs. It is important to understand which type of aggregate you need.

MOT stands for Ministry of Transport. If products have MOT in the title, they are approved for use as sub bases. They meet the strength and longevity standards set out by the Ministry of Transport.

MOT Type 1

When contractors search for ‘MOT Type 1 near me’ our name pops up. We are a trusted supplier of this widely used material.

So, what is MOT Type 1

Type 1 is pieces of limestone or granite that range from 40mm down to dust. The materials are sourced from a quarry. The large pieces form a strong base and the dust particles fill in the cracks. It has brilliant load-bearing qualities.

We recommend Type 1 for sub bases. Once compacted, MOT Type 1 sub bases are very strong. Sub bases can form the basis for domestic and commercial structures, sheds, patios, driveways, and car parks.

Recycled Type 1 MOT

Recycled Type 1 sub bases are a fantastic alternative to regular Type 1 sub bases. Recycled MOT is similar to regular MOT Type 1. The crushed materials range from 40mm to dust. The materials have excellent load-bearing qualities for a wide range of projects.

Recycled Type 1 is a by-product of construction sites. It is taken from existing sites that are being demolished. By using existing materials, builders can reduce their carbon footprints. This sustainable product is perfect for people who have to meet environmentally-friendly quotas. Just like regular Type 1, it is as easy to order and install.

Customers should be aware that there might be other materials in their batch. Fragments of granite, limestone, concrete, and brick will also be scooped up during the sourcing process.

MOT Type 2 Clean

So, what is MOT Type 2?

This type of MOT contains limestone or granite that is sourced from quarries. After the materials are sourced, the fine particles are filtered out. The large pieces are 40mm.

Like all the other types of MOT, Type 2 Clean is perfect for sub bases. MOT Type 2 sub bases are strong and compact. Because this product does not contain particles, it is recommended for drainage systems. Contractors do not have to worry about dust particles blocking their systems.

6F5 and 6F2 Recycled Aggregates 75mm

Contractors in London sometimes refer to 6F2 Recycled Aggregates as 6F5 Recycled Aggregates. We use the terms interchangeably. This product contains hardcore materials that are sourced from demolition sites. Customers can expect to find concrete, brick, limestone, and other aggregates in their batch. The chunks range from 75mm to dust.

We recommend 6F2 Recycled for bulk-fill projects.

Screened Crushed Concrete Type 1 40mm

Concrete screening is sourced from quarries. Type 1 concrete floor screening consists of 40mm pieces.

Screened concrete is typically used to create strong floor areas. Contractors spread it under paving, walkways, and patios. It creates a strong basis for primary construction projects. Customers can easily build on concrete floor screening.

Screened Crushed Concrete 75mm

This type of screened crushed concrete is sourced from quarries. It contains pieces that are 75mm and minimal dust particles.

Screening is a good choice for people who want to create compact base layers. We recommend creating bases that are anywhere from four to six inches and upwards. This thickness has excellent load-bearing qualities. Contractors can add a layer of sand on top to form a smooth surface.

What can I use crushed concrete for?

There is no end to the number of uses for crushed aggregates. We sell lots of types of crushed materials. Crushed materials go into construction sites. It is important to understand the different uses and applications.

MOT Type 1 hardcore materials are perfect for sub bases. This type of MOT is perfect for car parks, motorways, driveways, and domestic and commercial structures. It is good for projects that need excellent load-bearing qualities.

Recycled MOT Type 1 also has excellent load-bearing qualities as regular MOT type 1. We also recommend it for construction projects. It is more affordable and eco-friendly than regular Type 1.

MOT Type 2 is good for drainage systems. This type of MOT is sometimes called Clean MOT because it does not contain dust particles. It is good for construction projects that would benefit from sturdy, permeable materials that do not contain dust particles.

Recycled 6F2 (which is also called 6F5) is used in bulk fill projects. It is an affordable alternative to primary construction materials such as limestone. 6F2 is ideal for driveways, car parks, and motorways.

Will crushed concrete compact?

The simple answer is yes.

In most cases, crushed concrete will compact over time. This applies to all types of MOT and the crushed aggregates that we stock.

Crushed materials are used for sub bases. When they are properly spread, compacted, and installed, they will harden and create a firm base. This is an important consideration for people who want to create driveways and formations. Contractors might have to add a few layers at a time and compact each layer to get the load-bearing qualities that they require. They might also have to add new layers every few years to maintain the desired requirements and levels.

What is finer Type 1 MOT or Type 2 MOT?

One of the most common questions that customers ask us is, what is finer Type 1 MOT or Type 2 MOT?

It is important to understand the composition of your construction materials. Some types of MOT have a mixture of big and small chunks.

MOT Type 1 hardcore contains chunks of limestone and granite that range from 40mm to dust. The large chunks form a basis for strong structures, whilst the smaller particles fill the gaps. Once compacted, the materials create a strong base for structures.

Type 1 is finer than MOT Type 2. Type 2 is sometimes referred to as Clean MOT because it does not contain any particles.

Does crushed concrete drain?

Some construction projects require materials that drain at a faster flow rate than other materials. Another term for this is permeable. A material is permeable when water can pass through it. Concrete is solid cell material. However, it still pours to a degree. MOT crushed concrete is made up of lots of small chunks of concrete, which forms differently from poured ready mix concrete.

MOT Type 1 sub bases are not especially permeable, but they are not impermeable. This type of MOT contains a mixture of big and small particles. When the mixture is compressed to form a sub base, the small dust particles fill the gaps. The result is a very compact base.

It is much easier for water to travel through MOT Type 2 sub bases. Type 2 Clean does not contain particles. When Type 2 limestone or granite is compressed, there are small gaps throughout the materials. We recommend Type 2 for professionals who need bases that drain at a good flow rate.

Will crushed concrete harden?

Crushed concrete will harden, especially when builders compact and roll it for sub bases.

MOT Type 1 and Recycled Type 1 contain materials that range from dust to 40mm. The small particles fit into the remaining gaps and further harden the sub base.

It is important to note that crushed aggregates do not achieve the same hardness as ready mix concrete

Is crushed concrete toxic?

We create crushed concrete by grinding together quarried concrete and bricks from demolition projects. The materials that we source are tested in a laboratory. The tests that we conduct ensure the materials are suitable for use.

When we work with crushed concrete, particles are released into the air. We grind the pieces of concrete together. Our staff wear PPE to avoid exposure. Breathing in these particles can have a long-term impact on health. Our customers do not have to worry about exposure when they wear the correct PPE.
